I love beautiful tarot and oracle cards, so for each chapter of each novel I write, I draw a card from one of my decks and read it intuitively. See the bottom of the page for information about the novel.

Things are happening fast for Lilah and the breakup of her relationship with Charlie. It’s only been a few days, and she is still processing it.

To represent what Lilah needs now, I’ve pulled the Strength card from Beth Seilonen’s unique Guardian Tarot deck featuring trees.

What draws my attention on this card is the barrenness of the central figure. Her limbs droop, her leaves are gone, her roots hang onto the only solid ground nearby in what I interpret as a sea. Her roots hang on, but they are bare. There’s no sustenance here for her, but she hangs on, still.

Just beyond the figure is a portal of leaves, of life returning. She stands in contrast against it, and I see the light and color in the portal as the sunrise whereas she stands in the night under a full moon.

From where she is now, she cannot see the coming sunrise, only the bare roots clinging to the lonely rock she’s on.
