Novel Tarot: The Crossroads of Trust (Chapter 2)

8 of Swords - Celtic Tarot Deck

I love beautiful tarot and oracle cards, so for each chapter of each novel I write, I draw a card from one of my decks and read it intuitively. See the bottom of the page for information about the novel.

I’ve drawn the 8 of Swords from the Celtic Tarot deck. The card shows a young woman who is bound and blindfolded, with swords all around her and uneven terrain under her feet, but this is clearly Charlie.

He’s feeling a bit trapped by recent circumstances and can’t see an easy way out. His hands are tied, he thinks. What he can’t see is that, even though he may feel he’s the victim, he still has the power to save himself.

The character on this card may wear a blindfold and have her hands tied, but she could back up against the swords and cut her bonds. Her feet are free to walk away, too. She will have to navigate the dangers, as will Charlie, but she has more power than she gives herself credit for.

Charlie can still own up to the truth and set himself free, but instead, the prison he imposes on himself is far worse than the one he thinks he faces. Charlie likes to think of himself as a giver, yet there’s a point where he becomes a martyr to a cause no one else knows exists.
